The chemical reaction between the oxirane ring of EP and the carboxyl group of CTPB and kinetic parameters were investigated by Fourier transform infrared and differential scanning calorimetry.
The resulting pre-polymers were cured with methyl hexahydrophthalic anhydride. Scanning electron microscopic observations indicate that the micro-sized CTPB particles dispersed uniformly in the EP matrix formed a two-phase morphology, mainly contributing to the improved toughness of the modified network.
The best overall mechanical performance was achieved with 20 phr CTPB; above it, a fall in the strength and modulus was observed. The storage modulus and loss declined with the CTPB concentration due to its lower modulus and plasticizing effect from dynamic mechanical analysis measurements. Moreover, due to the weak polarity and excellent electrical insulation of CTPB, the CTPB-modified EP presented higher electrical resistivities and breakdown strength, and low dielectric permittivity and loss compared with neat EP. When the current density increased to 20 A g-1, the capacitance of CoFe2O4 nanosheets can maintain 78.5% (395 F g-1) of the initial value, indicating the remarkable rate capability of the as-prepared CoFe2O4 nanosheets. An aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) based on CoFe2O4 nanosheets as a positive electrode and the activated carbon (AC) as a negative electrode was assembled for the first time. The as-fabricated ASC delivered a specific capacitance of 73.12 F g-1 at a current density of 1.2 A g-1 in a voltage window of 1.5 V. The CoFe2O4//AC ASC could achieve a high energy density of 22.85 W h kg-1 and good long-term cycling stability (98% retention after 5000 cycles).
These results demonstrated that CoFe2O4 nanosheets could be one of the promising electrode material for supercapacitors applications. In this study, we exploit the reversible host-guest interactions between nanofillers and the matrix polymer films and report the fabrication of intrinsically healable, reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-reinforced polymer composite films capable of conveniently and repeatedly healing cuts of several tens of micrometers wide. The healable films can be prepared via layer-by-layer assembly of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) with complexes of branched poly(ethylenimine) grafted with ferrocene (bPEI-Fc) and RGO nanosheets modified with β-cyclodextrin (RGO-CD) (denoted as bPEI-Fc&RGO-CD).
The as-prepared PAA/bPEI-Fc&RGO-CD films are mechanically robust with a Young's modulus of 17.2 ± 1.9 GPa and a hardness of 1.00 ± 0.30 GPa. The healing process involves two steps: (i) healing of cuts in an oxidation condition in which the host-guest interactions between bPEI-Fc and RGO-CD nanosheets are broken and the cuts on the films are healed; and (ii) reconstruction of host-guest interactions between bPEI-Fc and RGO-CD nanosheets via reduction to restore the original mechanical robustness of the films. Magnetic tornadoes may therefore potentially contribute to the heating of the upper atmospheric layers in quiet Sun regions.Magnetic tornadoes are observed over a large range of spatial and temporal scales in different layers in quiet Sun regions. However, their statistical properties such as size, lifetime, and rotation speed are not well understood yet because observations of these small-scale events are technically challenging and limited by the spatial and temporal resolution of current instruments. Better statistics based on a combination of high-resolution observations and state-of-the-art numerical simulations is the key to a reliable estimate of the energy input in the lower layers and of the energy deposition in the upper layers. For this purpose, we have developed a fast and reliable tool for the determination and visualization of the flow field in (observed) image sequences. This technique, which combines local correlation tracking (LCT) and line integral convolution (LIC), facilitates the detection and study of dynamic events on small scales, such as propagating waves.
Here, we present statistical properties of vortex flows in different layers of the solar atmosphere and try to give realistic estimates of the energy flux which is potentially available for heating of the upper solar atmosphere. The effect of grafting temperature on the surface morphology and functional groups of carbon fibers were investigated by FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, XPS and SEM respectively.
The results showed that the optimal grafting temperature was 80 °C, and the relative surface coverage by carboxylic acid groups increased from an initial 5.16% up to 19.30% significantly improved the chemical activity without damaging the skin and core region of the carbon fibers. Mechanical property tests indicated that the shear and tensile strength of the sample with the grafting temperature of 80 °C (CFRP-3) increased obviously by 90.3% and 78.7%, respectively, compared with the pristine carbon fibers reinforced composite. Further, the sample CFRP-3 exhibited higher and more stable friction coefficient and improved wear resistance, while the wear rate decreased 52.7%, from 10.8 × 10-6 to 5.1 × 10-6 mm3/N m. The present work shows that grafting methyl acrylic via Diels-Alder reaction could be a highly efficient and facile method to functionalize carbon fibers for advanced composites.

The results revealed that lipopeptide biosynthesis might have relations with the population density of strain Q-426 and some special amino acids. Also, the alkali-resistant strain Q-426 could grow well in the presence of Fe(2+) ions below 0.8 M l(-1) and still maintain the competitive advantage below 0.2 M l(-1). Moreover, lipopeptides exhibited significant inhibitory activities against Curvularia lunata (Walk) Boed even at the extreme conditions of temperature, pH and salinity. Finally, biosurfactant properties of lipopeptides mixture were evaluated by use with totally six different methods including bacterial adhesion to hydrocarbons assay, lipase activity, hemolytic activity, emulsification activity, oil displacement test and surface tension measurement.
The research suggested that B. Amyloliquefaciens Q-426 may have great potential in agricultural and environmental fields. 2016-12-01 Secondary organic aerosols (SOA) have importance in environmental processes such as affecting earth's radiative balance and cloud formation processes. For studying SOA formation large scale environmental batch reactors and laboratory scale flow reactors have been used. In this study application of flow reactor to study physicochemical properties of SOA is also investigated after its characterization. The flow reactor is of cylindrical design (ID 15 cm x L 70 cm) equipped with UV lamps.
It is coupled with various instruments such as scanning mobility particle sizer, NOx analyzer, ozone analyzer, VOC analyzer, hygrometer, and temperature sensors for gas and particle phase measurements. OH radicals were generated by custom build ozone generator and relative humidity. The following characterizations were performed: (1) residence time distribution (RTD) measurements, (2) RH and temperature control, (3) OH radical exposure range (atmospheric aging time), (4) gas phase oxidation of SOA precursors such as α-pinene by OH radical.
The flow reactor yielded narrow RTDs. In particular, RH and temperature can be controlled effectively between 0-60% and 22-43oC, respectively. OH radical exposure ranges from 6.49x1010 to 3.68x1011 molecules/cm3s (0.49 to 4.91 days). Our initial efforts on OH radical generation using hydrogen peroxide and its quantification by using flourescenet technique will be also be presented. For a suspension of microswimmers, we derive the grand mobility matrix that connects the motion of an individual swimmer to the active and passive forces and torques acting on all the swimmers. Our investigation of the mobility tensors reveals that hydrodynamic interactions among rigid-bodied microswimmers differ considerably from those among the corresponding point-force dipoles. Our results are relevant for the study of collective behavior of hydrodynamically interacting microswimmers by means of Stokesian dynamics simulations at moderate concentrations. Flour from these products has a number of potential human health benefits and can be used in different food formulations. The objective of this study was to find out the flow-specific physical properties of coconut flours at three moisture levels. Coconut milk residue flour with 4.53 to 8.18% moisture content (w.b.) had bulk density and tapped density of 317.37 to 312.65 and 371.44 to 377.23 kg m-3, respectively; the corresponding values for virgin coconut oil cake flour with 3.85 to 7.98% moisture content (wet basis) were 611.22 to 608.68 and 663.55 to 672.93 kg m-3, respectively. The compressibility index and Hausner ratio increased with moisture. The angle of repose increased with moisture and ranged from 34.12 to 36.20 and 21.07 to 23.82° for coconut milk residue flour and virgin coconut oil cake flour, respectively.
The coefficient of static and rolling friction increased with moisture for all test surfaces, with the plywood offering more resistance to flow than other test surfaces. Based on these considerations, we fabricate Mg 2 B 2 O 5 nanowire enabled poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid-state electrolytes (SSEs). Notably, these SSEs have enhanced ionic conductivity and a large electrochemical window.
The elevated ionic conductivity is attributed to the improved motion of PEO chains and the increased Li migrating pathway on the interface between Mg 2 B 2 O 5 and PEO-LiTFSI. Moreover, the interaction between Mg 2 B 2 O 5 and -SO 2 - in TFSI - anions could also benefit the improvement of conductivity. In addition, the SSEs containing Mg 2 B 2 O 5 nanowires exhibit improved the mechanical properties and flame-retardant performance, which are all superior to the pristine PEO-LiTFSI electrolyte. When these multifunctional SSEs are paired with LiFePO 4 cathodes and lithium metal anodes, the SSLIBs show better rate performance and higher cyclic capacity of 150, 106, and 50 mAh g -1 under 0.2 C at 50, 40, and 30 °C. This strategy of employing Mg 2 B 2 O 5 nanowires provides the design guidelines of assembling multifunctional SSLIBs with high ionic conductivity, excellent mechanical properties, and flame-retardant performance at the same time. The PPE-tailored ACNTB (ACNTB@PPE) has increased strength for the penetration of PPE into porous ACNTB strengthening the interaction between each CNT. The strong interaction at the interface of ACNTB@PPE and BT matrix can be created owing to the reaction of the vinyl group in PPE on the surface of ACNTB and maleimide group in BT. BT with 2% ACNTB@PPE composite shows the optimal flexural strength, fracture toughness and tensile strength, which are 88%, 115% and 77% higher than those of BT, respectively.
The introduction of ACNTB@PPE slightly enhances the thermal property of BT. ACNTB@PPE can significantly improve the flame retardancy of BT composites. As compared to individual ACNTB, ACNTB@PPE effectively improves the integrated property of BT composites mainly due to the chemical interaction at the interface of ACNTB@PPE and BT matrix and the increased interaction between each CNT.
